Amino Acid

L-Arginine

A precursor to nitric oxide that dilates blood vessels, enhances circulation, and supports athletic performance and reproductive health.

What It Is

L-Arginine is a semi-essential amino acid and the sole substrate for nitric oxide (NO) synthesis in vascular endothelial cells. Nitric oxide causes smooth muscle relaxation, widening blood vessels, improving blood flow, and reducing vascular resistance. This mechanism underlies arginine's roles in cardiovascular health, male erectile function, reproductive tissue blood flow, and athletic endurance. Arginine also stimulates growth hormone secretion and supports immune cell function.

What It Does

  • Sole precursor for nitric oxide — drives vasodilation and improved circulation
  • Enhances blood flow to reproductive tissue for fertility support
  • Improves athletic performance and endurance via vascular efficiency
  • Stimulates growth hormone release and supports muscle repair
  • Supports cardiovascular health and arterial function

Clinical Considerations

Caution in patients with herpes simplex virus (arginine may promote viral replication — lysine should be balanced). Not recommended in acute myocardial infarction or severe uncontrolled hypotension. A clinical assessment is required.
