Amino Acid

N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)

A direct precursor to glutathione that supports liver detoxification, respiratory health, and cellular antioxidant defence.

What It Is

NAC is a modified form of the amino acid cysteine and the most clinically efficient precursor to glutathione synthesis. It directly replenishes intracellular cysteine, the rate-limiting building block of glutathione. NAC also has potent mucolytic (mucus-thinning) properties and is the medically established antidote in paracetamol (acetaminophen) overdose — which illustrates its powerful hepatoprotective action. In the context of IV therapy, NAC rapidly restores the body's primary antioxidant defence system.

What It Does

  • Directly drives intracellular glutathione synthesis
  • Potent liver detoxification and hepatoprotective support
  • Reduces oxidative stress and systemic inflammation
  • Supports respiratory health through mucolytic action
  • Emerging evidence for mood and neurological support

Clinical Considerations

Can cause nausea if infused too rapidly — administered at a controlled rate. May interact with nitroglycerin-class medications. A clinical consultation is required before treatment.
